  1. 9:28 I just noticed he swapped the images for 'iconic titles' and 'sports titles' and now this bothers me.

  2. I was like come on Scott what about Pokémon , got me in the first half lol

  3. Man i remember getting a gameboy pocket. My mom got me pokemon yellow. I was ontop of the world.

  4. LOL there was a commercial for the Pokémon gen 4 remakes after the video

  5. But GBC got Street Fighter Alpha and it's fucking great

  6. Did anyone notice at 9:28 the box art doesnt match up with what scott says, like when he says sports titles it shows mario and tetris.

  7. And yet even thought it was shit it was still the most amazing thing when it was released.

  8. 0:02 I don’t get this one. I don’t think Scott is that bad in terms of eyesight or foresight.

  9. Are we gonna ignore how he messed up the gb launch titles when he got to the conclusion on them?

  10. to be fair the original gameboys involvement with Pokémon only lasted one or two years in the us at most before the gameboy color took over, and even then the gameboy pocket had been out for 2 years by then and many probably played Pokémon for the first time on that

  11. Nintendo hand held: exist
    me: Pokémon machine

  12. Wtf, Shigesato Itoi named the Game Boy? As in, THAT Shigesato Itoi? That's awesome.

  13. Kirby appears white in Kirby's Dream Land due to the grayscale palette of the Game Boy system. Sakurai intended the character to be pink, though Miyamoto had originally thought the character to be yellow.

  14. I like the running gags. Like the allusions to his color blindness or how he always talks about Wario likes it is the greatest thing of all time.

  15. When Nintendo makes a Game Boy Classic, it should have 9-bit graphics. Then, they could say its graphics are "a bit better".
There's just one problem: Nintendo may not make a Game Boy Classic.

  16. Best thing to receive on 4th of july

  17. Scytt

    WOW what a lineup

  18. The Gameboy gave us Daisy so it's a win in my book

  19. you know the video is good when you're not even 13 seconds in and you keep rewinding to laugh at the first joke

  20. check out these two other awesome restoration videos!!! @ @

  21. Regarding the screen blurring, this is largely due to age. A new screen can have some blur when moving, but the screen was much clearer when it was brand new.

Yes, the Game Boy Pocket screen was even clearer, but my point is that a brand-new—or even just unused and unopened—Game Boy screen was not as bad as you see here in this video.

And I know this even though I didn’t really grow up with the Game Boy, either, because there are actually new-old stocks of replacement screens out there. And since the original model was still manufactured until 2006, there were quite a few replacement screens made, too, unlike most replacement parts for stuff from the 80s and 90s. And if you pop in a new screen, the difference is like night and day.

The issue with the Game Boy screen has to do with how it achieves its visuals. See, it actually uses ink to create images (that’s where the dot-matrix is used), and this leads to a number of issues. They just aren’t as good or long-lasting as LEDs or more typical LCDs. There are a number of things that happen, like screen rot (where mold gets in) and the blurring effect.

  22. Scott was one of those kids who said "Pokeman" to piss off other kids for liking Pokémon

  23. What about the game boy-girl?

  24. 20:23

Megaman IV on gameboy is the best classic megaman game. Change my mind.

    Also, V is completely original.

  25. it's funny because I was waiting for the mention of pokemon, and you described it perfectly. 😅

  26. 4 double AA's lol laughs in game gear batteries

  27. The ending is indicative of how you just cannot make a video about the Game Boy’s history and legacy without mentioning Pokémon.

  28. What I've got out of this video is Gameboy = Divorce

  29. I have one of the original Game Boys and I modded it with a backlight. It helps a bit, but the screen still blurs, so I'll just replace it with a full-on IPS display like I did with my GBA. Games look GLORIOUS on those new displays 🙂

  30. I miss my original Game Boy. To this day, that version of "Blades Of Steel" is one of my all-time favorite sports games.

  31. Im 23 i always had a gamboy and link awakening since i was like maybe 8 yrld and i never finished it. I have it on switch too lol imma do it during the holidays

  32. It's hard to appreciate how crazy it was when the Game Boy first came out. Nintendo games were known at the time as the highest quality games, and suddenly they released a tiny Nintendo console that you held in your hand. And you didn't need to hook it up to a controller because it had buttons right on it, you didn't need to hook it up to a TV because it had a little TV attached, and you didn't even need to plug it in because it could run on just AA batteries.

  33. I laughed way too hard at the microvision joke.

  34. 21:40
That really is more so a tech demo. It's more so like a personal technical challenge made almost entirely by 1 person that he was able to convince his boss to sell.
